A:随着时代的发展异域文化的交流越来越频繁了，像中国就传入了不少西方的节日，比如母亲节(mother’s day),父亲节（father’s day）,情人节（valentine’s day）圣诞节（christmas day）等等。

A：对，怎么能忘了呢？我不说是因为我每天都有一颗感恩的心！

A：感恩节确实是一个很有意义的节日，它提醒我们懂得感恩，懂得让生活充满爱.

Life Death Words
Arthur Ashe, the famous tennis player was dying of AIDS.From the world over,he received letters from his fans,one of which wrote:Why does God have to select you for such a bad disease?
To this Arthur replied: In the world over 5 core of children start playing tennis.50 Lakh learn to play tennis,5 Lakh learn professional tennis,50,000 come to the circuit ,5000 reach the grand slam,50 reach Wimbledon,4 to the semi final,2 to the final.When I was holding the championship cup I never asked God ‘why me?’ And today in pain I should not be asking God ‘why me?’ Be thankful to God for the 98% of the good things in life.

What’s New
1.The smart egg tells you when it’s cooked
A new type of egg can inform the ‘chef ’ when it’s done . The egg has heat-senstive invisible ink that turns black when the right temperature is reached. All you need to do is decide whether you prefer your eggs soft ,medium or hard_boiled,buy accordingly.
The eggs will go on sale this autumn .Maybe this ink should also be used on other foods ,like steak .They should display’WELL DONE ’ or ‘MEDIUM RARE’ in black letters when the meat reaches the right temperature.

会说话的蛋
一种新式鸡蛋在煮好时能通知‘大厨’，蛋上有热敏感墨水，这种墨水看不见，只有达到适当温度才会变成黑色。你所要做的就死决定你喜欢哪种鸡蛋—嫩的、半熟的还是全熟的，并以此购买。

The Nokia Open is call phone that opens like a fan with a scrollbar touchscreen with the push of a button in the middle,the thin phone opens up,revealing a flexible LCD touchscreen on which you can control the buttons and the menu options whith fingers,. This piece of artwork looks like it would be useful fpr making video phone calls to your relatives vacationing on Mars.

Airwash: the waterless washing machine
A waterless washing machine that removes strain from clothes within a few minutes ,without the use of washing powder.
The Airwash uses negative ions ,compressed air and deodorants to clean clothes. The form was inspired by the waterfall, which is nature’s own negative ion factory. It can be used for cleaning clothes of all kinds. Dry-clean-only clothes can be airwashed conveniently and quickly at home without explosure to chemicals and favorite dress can be cleaned frequently without fear of color fading. Airwash also help save lots on energy costs and consumption.
3 洗衣不用水

尝完了新鲜，我们再来研究一个美国习惯用语“cold feet”。
cold feet：一个人在充满信心的时候往往就会无所畏惧，勇往直前。但是当一个人对某件事感到胆怯的时候，他就畏缩不前。我们经常会碰到一种情况：有的人一开始的时候对某件事很有信心，很有把握，可是事到临头就变得没有勇气了。在英文里有一个俗语是来准确形容类似情况的，那就是cold feet。Cold feet并不是在雪地里走而使你的脚很凉，是指胆怯起来，失去信心，临阵退缩。例如:
Peter told his wife that this time he was really going to walk in,and demand a pay raise from the boss.But when he arrived at the office,he got cold feet.
皮特告诉他的妻子这次他一定要到老板那里要求开工资，但是当他走到办公室门口时就没有勇气了。
I should have gone to the dentist and fix my teeth . But every time I thought of the needles go into my mouth I got cold feet.
我本应该到牙医那里修牙，但是每次一想到进到我的嘴里，我就不寒而栗了。

Meeting a New Friend
Ryan and Christie are classmates,but they have never talked to each other.One day they are having biology class together,then they begin a small conversation.
Ryan: hey,aren’t you in my biology class?
Christie: Yes,I think so.Don’t you have Mr.Brown?
Ryan: Yeah,I thought I’d notice you ,but it’s hard to tell with all those people.
Christie: I find it very very strange to be in a class with 300 people. I’m used just 30 or 40 kids ini a class.
Ryan: This is my school year ,so I used to it by now,what year are you in school?
Christie: This is my semester,I’m a lowly freshman.
Ryan : Where are you from?
Christie:I’m from San Diego.Where are you from?
Ryan : I’m from Salt Lake City.I’v visited San Diego before and I love it there.You really have greay zoo.
Christie:Iguess you must ski if you are from Salt Lake City.Aren’t the Winter Olympics going to be in Salt Lake in 2002 ?
Ryan: Yes they are,It’s really exciting but there will be too many people crowding up my slopes.How are you liking biology?
Christie:Well,the class is really interesting.But science isn’t my best subject.Ilike liberal arts better.How about you?
Ryan :I had to take it for my generalo education,but it’s nice to learn about it5. My major is Electrical Engineering.
Christie:My major is English Literature.
Ryan :Have you ever read David Copperfield? I read it in high school and I really like it.
Christie:I love Dickens,but my favorite book is Emma,by Jane Austen.
Ryan :Have you ever started your research paper yet?
Christie:NO ,but it’s on my list thing to do.How about you?
Ryan :Well not really,but maybe we could go to the library sometime and grab a bite to eat afterwards.
Christie:that sounds like a great idea.It will be easier to make myself study if I have a partner.
Ryan :How does Thursday night sound?We could meet at 6:00 ink front of the circulation desk. Christie:Sure I’ll see you then.

莱恩：嘿，你是不是也在上生物课？
克瑞斯蒂：我想是的。你的老师是布朗博士吧？
莱恩：对，我觉得我看到过你，不过有那么多人，很难搞清楚。
克瑞斯蒂：上三百个人的大课，我觉得很奇怪。我习惯一个班只有30到40个学生。
莱恩：我已经二年级了， 所以习惯了，你是几年级？
克瑞斯蒂：这是我的第一学期，我只是个小新生。
莱恩：你是哪人？

莱恩：我是盐湖城人，我以前去过圣地亚哥，我很喜欢那，你们的动物园非常棒。
克瑞斯蒂：既然你是盐湖城人，那你肯定会滑雪。2002的冬季奥运会不是将在盐湖城举行吗？
莱恩：是的。那是个令人兴奋的消息，但到时候那么多人，会把我的滑雪山坡都挤满的。你觉得生物怎么样？
克瑞斯蒂：嗯，这门课很有意思，但立刻不是我的强项，我更喜欢文科，你呢？
莱恩：我是因为选修课的要求才修这门课的，不过学点生物挺不错的。我的专业是电气工程。
克瑞斯蒂：是吗？我的专业是英国文学。
莱恩：你看过《大卫科波菲尔》吗？我中学时读过那本书，我很喜欢。
克瑞斯蒂：我很喜欢狄更斯的书，但我最喜欢的是简奥斯汀写的《艾玛》。
莱恩：你开始写研究论文了吗？
克瑞斯蒂：还没有，不过这是我要做的事之一，你呢？
莱恩：我么， 也没有呢。 也许我们什么时候可以一起去图书馆，然后一起去吃点东西。
克瑞斯蒂：好主意，有个伴我会比较容易读得进去。
莱恩：星期四晚上怎么样？我们可以六点钟在借书处前面见。
克瑞斯蒂：好的，到时候见。
